Delta Ducky Derby

9am Sat June 11th

Helena, Arkansas

Gloria Higginbothom and Rhonnie Crowley of Helena’s Humane Society of the Delta have partnered with John Ruskey of Clarksdale and Helena’s Quapaw Company to grow their Delta Ducky Derby fundraising event by adding a canoe race on the main channel of the Mississippi River at Helena, Ruskey’s Race for the Rescue, to the fundraiser’s lineup of events for 2016.

Ruskey’s Race to the Rescue will consist of a series of heats in hand hewn, wooden, ten person canoes launching from Buck Island and racing on the Mississippi River at Helena. Each ten person team is encouraged to decorate their canoe with a headdress. Cost per ten person team is $1000 or $100 per person. Race for the Rescue will begin at 9 am on Saturday, June 11, 2016, and will precede the main event of 1500 rubber duckies racing on the river at 11 am. Prize money will be awarded to the winning team of canoe racers.

Delta Ducky Derby was started in 2015 to raise funds to support the Humane Society of the Delta. The HSD is run solely on donations and supports 175 animals and spay and neuter clinics, and provides transport for animals placed in permanent homes outside the area.
