Expeditions - Wilderness of the Lower Delta

Greenville to Vicksburg

100 river miles (3-7 days)
(See also Wilderness of the Lower Delta II)

Narrative: The fish in this section of river are free of any dangerous pollution including heavy metals, toxins or dioxins, according to a US Fish & Wildlife Survey. The sandbars are pristine. 200 miles from the nearest city and the river is doing its natural work, cleaning itself as it goes along. The further you get away from Memphis, the cleaner the river gets. Paddle underneath the new Hwy 82 bridge and descend into the Lower Delta -- some of the best birding in the nation, long remote sections of river to get lost in -- and then found! Clean islands & sandbars. Gravel bars, fossils & rocks. Great tracking. Beautiful camping. (100 river miles)

Sample Itinerary:
Day 1 Warfield Point (MM537)
Day 2 American Bar, Kentucky Bend
Day 3 Shipland Wildlife Management Area
Day 4 Willow Island, Paw-Paw Channel
Day 5 Mouth of the Yazoo River, Vicksburg (MM437)

All expeditions are outfitted with first-aid kits, rescue ropes, life preservers, cellular communication, and VHF marine radio.  Please remember itinerary is dependent on river level and prevailing weather.
When on the river, there is no time but “River Time.”
