This coming weekend is the Clarksdale Film Festival in downtown Clarksdale. We are celebrating with an opening of the “True Delta Photography Exhibit” as a fundraiser for the Mighty Quapaw Apprenticeship Program. Thursday 4-5pm. Photographer Michael Scanlan has generously donated his collection to us for this purpose. For an advance viewing of the electrically charged photographs on exhibit go to The “True Delta” movie will be showing the next day at 1pm at the Delta Cinema. Lastly, we will be screening a very home-made slide show w/music documentary about the Rivergator: Lower Mississippi River Water Trail featuring the WILD people and WILD places along the Lower Mississippi! Narrated by river rebel Mark River with raw river gee-tar by Driftwood Johnnie and technicals by River Brax. A must-see for any and all river-rats! The longest water trail in America along the longest stretch of free-flowing river in the continental United States. Sunday at 2:30pm around the corner from us at the Delta Cinema (11 3rd Street).

The Clarksdale Film Festival is celebrated in downtown Clarksdale Thursday-Sunday, January 23-26, 2014. The main downtown screening venue is historic Delta Cinema (11 Third Street) with a secondary venue at Channel Ziltch (119 Third Street). More information is available at or 662-624-5992. Tickets are $5 per day or $10 for a weekend pass; available at the Delta Cinemas box office during festival hours. Official festival hats and shirts are also available.

About the Photographer:

Michael Scanlan is a New York/New Jersey based photographer. He has served a wide range of private and commercial clients. His work has appeared in the Newark Star Ledger as well as numerous non-profit publications in the New York Metropolitan Area. Non-profit clients have included St. Benedict’s Preparatory School, Newark, NJ; YWCA of New York, New York, NY; South Orange Performing Arts Center, South Orange, NJ. Michael is graduate of Georgetown University. Although primarily self-taught, he has studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the Maine Photographic Workshops. After a ten-year career with MBNA America Bank, Michael joined St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey where he currently serves as Assistant Headmaster. The school has a national reputation for its service to a primarily inner city population. Its students obtain admission to the most competitive colleges and universities.
