NPR Special Series: Our Land
Veteran radio reporter Melissa Block and producer Elissa Nadworny slipped into the Mississippi & Arkansas Deltas a couple of weeks ago, absorbing stories from this unique landscape and its peoples. Melissa is hosting an ongoing NPR special series called Our Land, with episodes from the heartland of America. Previous stories aired from Kansas, Texas and Iowa. The Mighty Quapaws guided Melissa and Elissa on a brisk winter day trip from Helena, AR to Friars Point, MS, with a picnic on West Montezuma Island (the island that was created by the wreckage of the Montezuma in the early 1800s).
Melissa made a few stories about her experiences in the Mississippi & Arkansas Deltas, and two will air tomorrow Sunday Feb 26th: 1) a piece about Red's Juke Joint at 8:50 a.m. EST (Prob 9:50 am CT, but could be at 7:50 am CT). It will be at the end of the first hour of weekend edition Sunday. 2) A story about the river from Helena to Friars Point will air at the very end of Weekend All Things Considered at 5:50 pm ET.
Tune into your local NPR station tomorrow for the complete stories. Both audio clips will be available online next week at NPR online. Great exposure for the river, for Helena, and for Clarksdale... the river connects us all!
