Friends of the Sunflower River

Sat Feb 18 -- Friends of the Sunflower River -- quick re-cap: we held the 8th Annual General Membership Meeting at Quapaw Canoe Company 3-5pm, with a friendship bonfire following on the banks of the Sunflower.

All winter-spring 2012 we’ll be producing events in celebration, education and advocacy concerning the Sunflower River & its tributaries, with explorations and cleanups of the strange and important Sunflower River tributary: The Hushpuckena.

If you missed the meeting but want to remain a “friend” for the upcoming year, send your annual $25 membership to the address below (see bottom of email).

Welcome musicians Bob “Spoonz” Rowell and Jon Popper who accompanied blues great Bill Abel to the meeting!

Cleanups planned for:

Saturday Feb 25 10-5pm (Sunflower River)

Saturday Mar 3 10-5pm (Hushpuckena River)

Meet place: behind Quapaw Canoe Company in downtown Clarksdale. Wear heavy rubber boots or knee-high leather boots, bring gloves, sun protection, lunch and water bottle.

Cleanup Rentals:

Anyone who rents a canoe from Quapaw Canoe Company will receive a $5/trash bag refund on canoe rentals up to $15 refund for fully loaded canoe (fully loaded with trash). Rentals by the day: $35/canoe includes paddle + lifejacket for 2 people.
